Direct PV mounting on an extravagant barrel roof with S-5!® PVKIT®
In this project, a photovoltaic system was installed on an architecturally sophisticated barrel-vaulted roof. The curved roof shape, combined with a double standing seam profile, presented particular challenges for the planning and implementation of the PV substructure. The aim was to find a solution that could flexibly adapt to the roof geometry, did not penetrate the roof membrane, and simultaneously ensured a permanently secure mounting of the modules.
The railless direct mounting system for PV modules was used with the S-5!® PVKIT® in conjunction with S-5!® E-Mini clamps. This system allows for the direct attachment of framed PV modules to the standing seam roof, without additional rails or roof penetrations. This mounting method offers significant advantages, especially for curved roof shapes, as it allows for high adaptability while maintaining a low system weight.
Due to the unusual roof geometry, only end clamps were used. These allowed for flexible positioning of the modules along the curve of the barrel roof and ensured an even load distribution across the entire roof surface. At the same time, lateral forces and additional loads on the seam were minimized, which is a particularly important aspect for the longevity of the structure, especially with metal roofs.
The project was implemented by KH Fischer GmbH, which successfully contributed its many years of experience in metal construction and roofing technology. The clean execution and precise adaptation to the roof shape demonstrate how modern photovoltaic solutions can be reliably implemented even in demanding architectural designs.
This reference project impressively demonstrates that direct PV mounting with the S-5!® PVKIT® particularly shines where conventional rail systems reach their limits. The result is a lightweight, durable, and visually harmonious solution for photovoltaics on standing seam metal roofs.
